CHIAYI — Police near Chiayi HSR Station helped a visiting family reach their hotel after the mother became overwhelmed by difficulty communicating and broke down in tears beside the road.
The 39-year-old woman was traveling with her 42-year-old husband and their 12-year-old child, according to Hong Kong newspaper The Standard.
The report said the woman became distressed by the language barrier and unfamiliar surroundings. She eventually crouched beside the road and began crying, prompting the frightened child to cry as well.
Unsure how to calm his wife or continue their journey, the husband approached two police officers patrolling nearby.
The officers were from a Taibao police station under the Chiayi County Police Bureau’s Shuishang Precinct. Chiayi HSR Station is located in Taibao City (太保市), several kilometers west of central Chiayi.
The officers remained with the family until the woman began to calm down. Concerned that they were standing beside a road, the officers took the family to the police station, where they offered them tea and a place to rest.
Police later arranged a taxi to take the family to their hotel.
The husband thanked the officers for helping his family through the unexpected interruption to their trip.
