KAOHSIUNG — Japanese supermarket chain LOPIA plans to open Taiwan’s first LOPIA PREMIO store at Hanshin Department Store (漢神百貨) in Kaohsiung on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, according to the China Times.

The supermarket is scheduled to occupy the third basement level of the department store’s main branch in Cianjin District (前金區). The new format will feature changes to its merchandise, interior design and staff uniforms.

LOPIA Taiwan General Manager Mizumoto Hitoshi (水元仁志) said in a social media announcement that the team had spent more than six months preparing what it considers its “dream supermarket.”

Mizumoto said the company aims to offer better-tasting and higher-quality products, a greater sense of novelty and a more comfortable shopping environment.

He stressed that PREMIO is not intended to be a luxury supermarket. The format will continue LOPIA’s established “food theme park” concept while seeking to feel different from the chain’s conventional stores.

Renderings show a predominantly white interior with gold PREMIO lettering. The produce section near the entrance also appears brighter and more restrained than the densely stocked presentation associated with existing LOPIA outlets.

LOPIA currently lists two operating stores in Kaohsiung, at Dream Mall and Hanshin Arena. The PREMIO opening would give the chain another location in the city while testing its redesigned supermarket concept at Hanshin’s downtown branch.
