KAOHSIUNG — A 44-year-old motorcyclist faces a criminal investigation and traffic fines totaling up to NT$133,100 after police stopped him for running a red light and using his phone while riding, then obtained a positive saliva drug test.
Officers from Caoya Police Station (草衙派出所) spotted the rider, surnamed Gong (龔), near the intersection of Kanghe Road (康和路) and Jhendong 1st Street (鎮東一街) in Cianjhen District (前鎮區) at about 6 p.m. on Oct. 10, Liberty Times reported.
Police said Gong appeared nervous and became agitated during questioning, shouting, “Why should I cooperate with your rapid test?” Officers also discovered that his driver’s license had already been canceled.
After further questioning, Gong admitted smoking cigarettes containing ketamine, police said. He told officers he had become agitated because he feared testing positive. A subsequent saliva screening returned a positive result.
Police referred the case to the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office (高雄地方檢察署) for investigation into suspected drug-related offenses and driving under the influence of drugs.
They also issued citations for five alleged violations: driving without a valid license, driving after drug use, using a phone while riding, running a red light, and failing to comply with helmet requirements. The maximum combined fines total NT$133,100, according to the report. Police impounded the motorcycle and seized its license plate.
