Taiwanese singer-songwriter Andr performed at Waves Vienna in Austria on Oct. 1 as part of the Golden Melody Festival’s international exchange program. She was the only Taiwanese act in this year’s lineup.

Waves Vienna combines live performances by emerging artists with industry talks and networking events. This year’s festival ran from Oct. 1 to 3, featuring 110 acts from 27 countries. It drew more than 14,400 attendees.

Andr’s music draws on indie pop, alternative R&B and indie rock. She has performed at SXSW, Clockenflap and Summer Sonic. This year, she released her EP SKIN and completed her first Asian tour. The tour took her to Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Taipei.

Andr said it felt special to go from attending music festivals as a fan to performing onstage herself. She often receives messages from listeners abroad asking her to perform in their cities. “It’s a rare chance to share music from Taiwan with them,” Andr said in a press release. “I think that’s pretty cool.”

The Golden Melody Festival’s exchange program helps Taiwanese musicians perform overseas and connect with music industry professionals. Taiwanese rapper someshiit is scheduled to perform at Iceland Airwaves in November. More information is available on the GMA Facebook page.
