KAOHSIUNG — A new family-friendly attraction in eastern Kaohsiung is already drawing strong interest ahead of its debut. The Neimen (內門區) “Yesen Animal School” (野森動物學校) will begin soft operations on January 17, with weekend tickets for the opening period already sold out and limited weekday slots still available. According to the Kaohsiung City Government Tourism Bureau, reservations opened on January 8 for visits between January 17 and 31. Due to animal welfare considerations, daily attendance during the trial phase is capped at 1,000 visitors. The park will also close every Tuesday and Wednesday to allow animals sufficient rest and care.

The China Times reports the 11.5-hectare facility’s architectural design draws inspiration from Neimen’s local culture and the traditional Songjiang Battle Array (宋江藝陣), with twin-axe-shaped structures symbolizing “maintaining internal security and defending against external threats.”

The park preserves much of the original bamboo forest and local wildlife habitats. Entrance pathways feature illustrations of native species such as pangolins and masked palm civets, blending cultural storytelling with environmental education.

More than 20 animal species have been introduced, including two-toed sloths, lesser anteaters, black-tailed prairie dogs, white and red foxes, capybaras, Harris’s hawks, red-necked wallabies, Falabella miniature horses, pygmy goats, Ouessant sheep, Valais blacknose sheep, marmots, chameleons, Call ducks, and guinea pigs. Visitors can observe natural behaviors such as burrowing prairie dogs or exploring anteaters, and—under staff supervision—interact closely with animals like sloths, capybaras, and foxes.

On-site amenities include themed dining venues such as “Sloth Time Café,” “Dream Stone Coffee,” and “Forest Hearth Pizza,” along with a mobile food truck area. Children can explore the “Forest Adventure Village” play zone, making the park a full-day destination for families.

During the soft opening period, entry is reservation-only through the official website. Ticket prices are NT$399 for general admission, NT$299 for Kaohsiung residents, and NT$149 for concession tickets. Neimen District residents and children under two enter for free.

Visitors can drive to the park or take bus route 8035 from Cishan Transit Station, with additional weekend shuttle services provided.
