KAOHSIUNG — The Cijin Ferry Terminal has reopened after a renovation aimed at improving passenger flow, public facilities, and the nighttime appearance of one of Kaohsiung’s busiest tourist gateways.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) attended the reopening ceremony on Wednesday, joined by city councilors, borough chiefs, and other local representatives.
Chen said the terminal has been in use for nearly 30 years and needs renovations, including structural reinforcement, an exterior redesign, and new nighttime lighting.
He said city officials had visited the site several times during construction to check on progress, and thanked architect Wu Wei-ting (伍偉廷), the construction team, and city departments involved in the project of making the terminal a more attractive entry point to Cijin.
Chen also thanked Cijin residents for supporting city development projects, adding that the city plans to launch a series of summer tourism promotions to encourage more visitors to the island.
Kaohsiung City Shipping Co. said the redesign was based on the idea of a “port of light,” combining references to the Kaohsiung Lighthouse, harbor scenery, and marine elements.
The company said the renovations improve waiting areas, the way passengers circulate through the building, and various public facilities, while — in general — making the terminal easier for visitors to use.
Local brands have also been introduced to the terminal, offering coffee, specialty products, and travel services.
The city said the upgraded terminal is intended to serve not only as a transportation hub, but also as a tourism and leisure space and a new visual gateway to Cijin.
