KAOHSIUNG — Temperatures in parts of Taiwan could drop below 10°C early Saturday morning as a strong continental cold air mass continues to affect the island, according to the Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署).

Forecasters say the combination of the cold air mass and radiative cooling overnight will bring the lowest temperatures to northern and central Taiwan, as well as Yilan and Hualien counties. Early morning temperatures in these areas are expected to range from 11°C to 14°C, with some localized areas falling below 10°C.

Southern Taiwan and Taitung County (台東縣) are expected to see slightly warmer lows between 15°C and 17°C.

Meteorologists say temperatures should begin to gradually rise starting over Saturday, though large temperature differences between morning and evening will continue for several days.

Most of Taiwan is expected to see sunny to partly cloudy weather on Sunday, with only isolated showers forecast for the east coast and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島).

Looking ahead, the weather agency says another northeast monsoon system could arrive around March 20, bringing cooler temperatures again to northern and northeastern Taiwan.
