Kaohsiung City Government (高雄市政府) reportedly decided around midnight on a citywide stop to work and school after updated rainfall forecasts showed significant rain was still expected during the Friday morning commute. The city said the measure was intended to reduce the risk of travel during possible extreme torrential rain.
Kaohsiung suspended work and classes in Qishan District (旗山區) and Meinong District (美濃區) from noon Thursday after heavy rain triggered flooding concerns and a landslide warning.
The Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署) issued a heavy rain advisory Monday morning for nine cities and counties, including Kaohsiung and Pingtung, as moist southwesterly winds continued to affect Taiwan.
