KAOHSIUNG — A new family recreation park at the former Taiwan Railways Kaohsiung Workshop is scheduled to open Aug. 8, the Kaohsiung City Government said.

Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) heard a briefing on the project at a city administrative meeting on Tuesday and asked city agencies to finalize traffic, crowd control, and safety plans before the opening.

The former TRA workshop is an important part of Kaohsiung’s industrial history. The city said the redevelopment project is intended to preserve railway heritage while turning the site into a public space for recreation, culture, and family activities.

City officials released photos showing parts of the new park, including indoor play areas and renovated workshop spaces.

Chen said preparations should include shuttle bus arrangements, parking management, drinking-water stations, medical posts, and enough toilets for visitors.

He also asked agencies to check construction quality and facility safety before the site opens.

The city said the park is expected to draw large crowds during the opening period. Traffic guidance, pedestrian routes, signs, public transport connections, and site cleaning will be strengthened.

Chen said that after the park begins regular operations, the city should continue preventive inspections and quickly repair damaged facilities or address dirty areas.
