Nvidia did not — despite some rumors — choose to set up an HQ in Kaohsiung, but Hong Hai, better known in English as Foxconn, is apparently betting big on the city. On Friday, Reuters reported that “Foxconn (2317.TW), the world’s largest contract electronics maker, said on Friday it will invest NT$15.9 billion ($509.94 million) to build its Kaohsiung headquarters in southern Taiwan. That would include a mixed-use commercial and office building and a residential tower, it said. Construction is scheduled to start in 2027, with completion targeted for 2033.”

Various local news sources have since offered details and artist renditions. According to 高雄好過日, the building is to be part of the MRT Yellow Line Y15 joint development project, and will adopt a mixed-use commercial and residential design. The project will incorporate extensive technology applications, with AI teams and three major smart-platform teams scheduled to move in in phases.

Project Overview
- 45-story office tower, approximately 234 meters in height. The tower will feature commercial space at both the podium and upper levels, with an observation deck and art gallery at the top. The 36th floor will house a corporate exhibition and presentation center. Total office space will span approximately 20,000 ping.

- 32-story residential building, approximately 130 meters in height, designed as employee housing. Planned facilities include an infinity pool and a rooftop garden.

- Total floor area of approximately 52,000 ping, combining Class A office space, retail areas, dining facilities, and corporate residential units. The podium level will connect directly to the MRT Y15 Station, with an elevated skybridge providing direct access to the transportation hub.

- The city government will receive NT$6.3 billion in returned value to support MRT construction, along with 227 public parking spaces.

- The development is expected to create approximately 3,000 jobs and generate an estimated NT$20 billion in annual economic output.

- Construction is scheduled to begin by late 2027, with completion targeted for 2033.
