Man said he thought cops “would never suspect that I’d just stay at home”
KAOHSIUNG — A 25-year-old man wanted in four separate fraud cases was arrested in Kaohsiung after police found he had never left home, believing officers would not suspect someone on a wanted list would simply remain at their own residence.
The Xinxing Precinct (新興分局) said Saturday that officers from the Wufu Second Police Station (五福二所) discovered during an investigation that the suspect, surnamed Cheng (鄭), was on multiple wanted lists. Rather than fleeing, Cheng continued living at his residence.
On Sept. 19 around 10 p.m., officers staked out the entrance to his building. When Cheng (鄭) returned home on foot with a friend, police surrounded and detained him on the spot.
Authorities said Cheng was wanted by prosecutors’ offices in New Taipei (新北地檢) and Keelung as well as courts in Qiaotou Tainan, all on fraud-related charges. He was arrested after being read his rights and has been transferred for investigation under the Anti-Fraud Statute (詐欺犯罪危害防制條例) and related laws.
