PINGTUNG — Jet skis are being allowed back at Dapeng Bay (大鵬灣) in Pingtung County after a 23-year ban, as tourism officials seek to expand recreation options at the lagoon, reports said.
The Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area Headquarters banned jet ski operations in 2003 after concerns that waves created by high-speed riding could affect other tourist boats.
Since then, motorized water activities in the Donggang Township (東港鎮) lagoon have been limited, with banana boat rides operating on a restricted route since 2018.

The operator of the banana boat service applied this year to add jet skis and swan pedal boats. The application was approved on Monday, the scenic area headquarters said.
Demonstrations of jet skis and flyboards were held on Wednesday to show how the activities would operate in the lagoon, reports said.
Tourism officials said the added water recreation options should help Dapeng Bay attract more domestic and international visitors.
