Kaohsiung, Aug. 25 – A preliminary magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck southeastern Taiwan at around 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to initial earthquake detection data.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The earthquake was detected near Taitung County, with its estimated epicenter about 5 kilometers from the county.
Preliminary estimates showed shaking across parts of southern and eastern Taiwan, including the Kaohsiung area.
Official information on the earthquake’s magnitude, depth, epicenter and intensity levels had not yet been released by Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration (CWA) as of shortly after the quake.
The initial magnitude and location may be revised once official seismic data becomes available.
