Kaohsiung’s Environmental Protection Bureau (高雄市環保局) says it will assist the police in investigating a major case of illegal waste dumping along Provincial Highway 41 in Tianliao District (田寮區高41線道). The Environmental Protection Bureau has cleared away an estimated equivalent of 10 truckloads of garbage that was illegally tossed down a ravine from the hillside near the “Moon World” (月世界) tourist attraction in Kaohsiung’s Tianliao District.

Inspectors have so far determined that the trash mostly seems to have originated in Tainan (台南). Officials say the scale and method of disposal point to the work of an organized group. Cleanup crews were dispatched overnight, removing most of the waste from the hillside. Thirteen truckloads were cleared, and the site was fully restored by this morning.

According to the Environmental Protection Bureau (環保局), prosecutors at the Qiaotou District Prosecutors’ Office (橋頭地檢署) have taken over the investigation and are coordinating with police. Authorities believe a Tainan-based waste-removal operator hauled garbage to transfer stations in Gangshan (岡山) and Yanchao (燕巢), before sending other vehicles—likely with GPS disabled or switched to non-tracked trucks—to dump it near Moon World.

The Environmental Protection Bureau stated that investigators have viewed CCTV footage, and other relevant video footage has been retrieved from nearby residences. Officials say they will continue assisting prosecutors and promise strict enforcement with no leniency.
