PINGTUNG — The 2026 Pingtung Christmas Festival (屏東聖誕節) opened at Pingtung Park (屏東公園) on Friday evening, bringing 12 themed light installations and weekend holiday activities to southern Taiwan. The event, themed “Christmas Wonderland Party,” will run through Jan. 3, 2027.

The centerpiece attractions include the 10-meter-tall “Starlight Christmas Tree” and the “Radiant Art Box,” an interactive installation featuring mechanical movements and lighting effects. The park also hosts other themed areas, such as the “Fairytale Adventurers” winter forest, the “Starry Golden Crown” light corridor, and the “Moonlight Fairytale” display, which depicts Santa’s reindeer traversing the night sky. Light shows will be presented across different areas of the park every 15 to 30 minutes, and weekend visitors can view a “Dream Bubble Show” generated by smoke bubble machines. Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi and American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Kaohsiung Branch Chief Lee Skluzak were also in attendance to view the displays on the opening night.

Fourteen food stalls offering local delicacies and specialty products are set up beneath the main Christmas tree. The festive atmosphere extends into the surrounding streets, with free photo booths and parades planned along Jhonghua Road, Fengjia Road, Minzu Road, and the area surrounding Cifeng Temple.

Additionally, a two-day “Jhonghua Street Market” will take place on Jhonghua Road over the weekend, featuring 70 vendors selling local food, desserts, and creative handicrafts.
