Kaohsiung Breaks Ground on NT$15.5 Billion Road Network for Nanzih Science Park, Set to Open in 2028
Planned works include new connector roads and additional ramps linking to National Freeway 1 (國道1號), allowing traffic to flow more directly between the science park and surrounding districts, including access toward Zuoying High Speed Rail Station (左營高鐵站).
Amid geopolitical risks and supply chain realignment, South Korea has elevated semiconductors to the level of national strategy. Under its “K-Semiconductor Vision and Strategy in the AI Era,” the government plans to invest approximately 700 trillion won (around US$ 520 billion) by 2047 to build the world’s largest semiconductor cluster, with 16 new fabrication plants scheduled by 2030. It has also established a 50 trillion won (around US$ 37 billion) industry fund, offering up to 25% tax credits for facility investment and 50% for R&D, while aiming to cultivate 150,000 semiconductor professionals by 2030 to strengthen the industry’s integrated innovation ecosystem.
The critical threshold today lies in extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography. For 3-nanometer nodes and below, EUV is virtually indispensable. However, due to export controls, SMIC—China’s leading foundry—cannot access EUV systems and must rely instead on deep ultraviolet (DUV) immersion lithography.

Experts warn that graduates from northern Taiwan are often reluctant to relocate south, raising concerns that local universities alone may struggle to meet future workforce needs as related industries expand.
