KAOHSIUNG — Two cars were damaged Tuesday morning after pieces of metal reinforcing bar fell from the Fubon Hanshin Aozihdi (富邦漢神凹子底) construction site in Gushan District (鼓山區), in what appears to be the second falling-object incident linked to the project this year.

Police said the accident happened at about 10 a.m. near the intersection of Shennong Road (神農路) and Longwen Street (龍文街), where construction crews were lifting rebar. Two pieces reportedly fell onto the street and struck two parked vehicles. No injuries were reported.

A separate accident at the same development happened on Jan. 11, when a metal panel fell from above and damaged three parked scooters, narrowly missing pedestrians. The Kaohsiung City Government Public Works Bureau (高雄市政府工務局) said the January accident was caused by inadequate safety measures by the contractor, ordered work suspended, and issued a NT$90,000 fine.

Tuesday’s incident is likely to renew scrutiny of safety practices at the high-profile project, which has already drawn public criticism over repeated construction hazards.
