KAOHSIUNG — Nearly 480,000 households across Kaohsiung will face water disruptions on Sunday, March 22, as infrastructure work forces a temporary shutdown at a major treatment facility.
According to the Taiwan Water Corporation (台灣自來水公司), water service will be fully suspended from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in parts of Fongshan District (鳳山區), Niaosong District (鳥松區), and Sanmin District (三民區).
Meanwhile, water pressure will drop across several other districts, including Sinsing District (新興區) and Renwu District (仁武區), along with parts of Sanmin, Fongshan, Zuoying District (左營區), Cianjhen District (前鎮區), and Gushan District (鼓山區).
Officials said the disruption is necessary to coordinate with Taipower (台電) on a project to move overhead high-voltage lines underground. The work requires a temporary power shutdown affecting the Chengcing Lake Water Treatment Plant (澄清湖淨水場), one of southern Taiwan’s key water supply facilities.
The water company said emergency generators and backup supplies from Tainan will partially offset the loss of production, but a supply gap will remain during the outage.
Residents are advised to store water at least six hours before the shutdown and switch off electric water pumps during the interruption. Customer service is available at 1910.
