KAOHSIUNG — New data visualizations by Eyes on Taiwan shows how deeply convenience stores are woven into daily life across Kaohsiung, with 7-Eleven operating in all 38 districts and three other major chains showing varying levels of coverage.

The images, published by Eyes on Taiwan, a Taiwan-focused media outlet that produces stories, photos, maps and data visualizations, use data collected in May 2026 from official store locator websites. It includes four major chains: 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Hi-Life and OK Mart.

According to the visualization, 7-Eleven has 752 stores in Kaohsiung, making it the most widely distributed chain in the city. It is also the only one of the four with at least one outlet in every district.

FamilyMart has 394 stores and operates in 35 of Kaohsiung’s 38 districts, giving it near-citywide coverage. Hi-Life has 171 stores across 30 districts, while OK Mart has a much smaller footprint, with 25 stores in 11 districts.

A separate district-level map shows the number of convenience stores per 10,000 residents. Most districts fall between three and five stores per 10,000 people, although the figure is higher in several areas.

One district is listed at 11 stores per 10,000 people, but the visualization notes that the figure is inflated by the district’s very small population, with two stores serving 1,846 residents.

The data highlights the role of convenience stores as more than retail outlets in Taiwan. In Kaohsiung, as in much of the country, convenience stores often function as parcel pickup points, bill payment counters, ATM locations, quick-service food stops and neighborhood service hubs.

Eyes on Taiwan describes itself as exploring Taiwan through different perspectives, including stories, photos, maps and data visualizations. Their FB page has about 6,600 followers.
