Images by the author show Mayor Chen addressing the crowds (far left) and throngs enjoying the musical performances.

No official attendance statistics have been released by the city yet, but the crowds were numerous on the first evening of the eight-nation Sunshine Island Vibe Fest.

The area near the stage was wall-to-wall people, and judging by the enthusiastic reactions, they seemed to be very much enjoying the music, especially the sets from a few local bands. The crowd sang along and cheered to the last moment, just after 9 pm, after which things began to wind down.

Food and drink vendors spread out along the streets surrounding the park also catered to customers until just after 9 pm.

The event promises to be bigger this afternoon and evening, with a long list of noted groups scheduled to perform. See the link below for more info.
