TAICHUNG — Combat units from the Armed Forces’ Fifth Theater Command (第五作戰區) conducted critical infrastructure protection drills in central Taiwan on Aug. 5, marking the first day of the Han Kuang (漢光演習) military exercises, according to the Military News Agency (軍聞社).
The drills were designed to enhance emergency response capabilities and familiarize combat units with deployment routes to critical infrastructure targets.
According to the Military News Agency, the Fifth Theater Command deployed various military vehicles for the operations, including M60A3 tanks, CM-33 and CM-34 Clouded Leopard armored infantry fighting vehicles, and CM-21 armored personnel carriers. The forces simulated real-time battlefield conditions to execute their assigned operational missions.
During the exercise, combat readiness units quickly maneuvered to tactical positions upon receiving simulated situation reports. The troops also utilized local terrain for concealment and camouflage.
Military officials stated the drills effectively tested the soldiers’ ability to respond to immediate combat situations and unexpected emergencies, aiming to ensure the safety and security of critical infrastructure targets.
