KAOHSIUNG — The renovated section of Heti Park (河堤公園) along the Love River (愛河) has fully reopened ahead of schedule, with repaired paths, upgraded lighting, and the slippery glass panels on the park’s northern footbridge replaced with textured, slip-resistant concrete.

The approximately NT$187 million project restored park facilities and planting damaged by storms in 2024. Originally scheduled for completion at the end of 2026, the work finished early, with CNA reporting on Nov. 2 that the renovated area had opened in full.

The project covers a roughly one-kilometer corridor along both riverbanks between Mingcheng 2nd Road (明誠二路) and Tiansiang 2nd Road (天祥二路).

According to the city’s Water Resources Bureau, crews repaired one loop trail, five access paths, and nine connecting paths. On the North Bridge (北橋), the glass paving was replaced with textured concrete designed to provide better grip. Energy-efficient lighting was also upgraded for early-morning and nighttime use.

The work included changes to bicycle connections, traffic signals, and road markings near the park. The bureau said the revised layout reduces the number of signal stops by two and is intended to ease the longstanding traffic bottleneck at Heti Road (河堤路) and Yucheng Road (裕誠路).
