KAOHSIUNG — Kaohsiung light rail recorded 1,109,830 passenger trips in August 2026, up 6.5% from the same month last year, the Liberty Times reported on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

C35 Kaisyuan Wuchang Station (凱旋武昌站) posted the greatest change. Its average daily ridership more than doubled from August 2025, while its ranking rose from 30th to 14th among the line’s 38 stations, according to the report.

The newspaper linked the gains to two summer openings along the route: Costco’s Kaohsiung Asia New Bay Area branch (好市多高雄亞灣店), which opened July 3 near C6 Commerce and Trade Park Station (經貿園區站) and C7 Software Technology Park Station (軟體園區站), and Kaohsiung Family Fun Park (高雄親子遊樂園區), which opened Aug. 8 beside C35 and near C36 Kaisyuan Ersheng Station (凱旋二聖站).

The Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau’s official travel site says the family park occupies part of the former Taiwan Railways workshop in Fongshan District (鳳山區). The semi-covered site retains elements of the railway facility and contains more than 30 play features.

Ridership increased at C6, C7, C35 and C36 during August, the Liberty Times reported. The sharpest movement was at C35, the closest light rail stop to the family park.

The 22.1-kilometer circular light rail line is operated by Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corp. Its 2025 ridership reached a record 13.33 million passenger trips, exceeding the original annual design estimate of 9 million, according to the newspaper.
