KAOHSIUNG/TAICHUNG — A woman from Taichung, identified by the pseudonym “A-mei” (阿美), told investigators she lost consciousness for about two days after drinking what she described as “sweet water” (甜甜的水) at a motel, later waking to signs that she had been sexually assaulted.

According to court documents, she met a man surnamed Huang, whom she had previously connected with online, and the two went out for sushi together. After the meal, Amei began to feel dizzy and weak. Huang suggested they rest at a motel and drove her there. Inside the room, Huang handed her a cup of water, which she described as tasting “sweet.” Shortly after drinking it, she lost consciousness.

Huang (黃姓男子) denied wrongdoing, but the Kaohsiung District Court (高雄地方法院) convicted him of opportunistic sexual intercourse (乘機性交) and sentenced him to four years in prison; the case remains appealable. 鏡週刊 Mirror Media+2民視新聞網+2

    The evidence against the suspect:

Hospital records confirmed the victim was sexually assaulted, which was a key forensic finding in the case. 四季線上4gTV Court review included video from the motel or surrounding surveillance cameras that contradicted the defendant’s version of events, helping the judge reject his claims.

The suspect’s statements—claiming the encounter was consensual or that he returned home after dropping her off—were found not credible by the court when weighed against physical evidence, medical findings, and other case facts. Yahoo News Taken together, these elements led the Kaohsiung District Court to conclude the defendant’s account was not supported, and to convict him under the statute against opportunistic intercourse. 四季線上4gTV

    Safety reminder: Watch your drink

Police are urging the public to stay alert for drink spiking when meeting new acquaintances, especially those they have met online for the first time. Never leave beverages unattended, avoid accepting drinks you did not see prepared, and be cautious of unusual tastes such as excessive sweetness or bitterness. If you suddenly feel dizzy, weak, disoriented, or unusually drowsy, seek help immediately and contact emergency services. Friends and family are also encouraged to check in if someone goes missing unexpectedly or cannot be reached for extended periods.
