KAOHSIUNG — A new family recreation park inside the former Taiwan Railways Kaohsiung Workshop (台鐵高雄機廠) was 95 percent complete as of July 9 and remains scheduled to open Aug. 8, city officials said.
The 1.5-hectare park occupies the workshop’s former freight-car repair building and combines covered and open-air areas. Fire safety, electrical systems, and play equipment are undergoing final inspections, while landscaping, paving, and utility work continue outside.

Walls along Kaisyuan 3rd Road (凱旋三路), Wuchang Road (武昌路), and Wucing 2nd Road (武慶二路) are also being removed to improve pedestrian access and connect the site with surrounding streets and green space.
The park will feature more than 30 attractions catering to different age groups, including slides, swings, a cloud-shaped trampoline, a pump track for bicycles and scooters, high-rope challenges, climbing areas, sensory games, and water-play facilities.

Parts of the former industrial roof have been retained to provide shade and shelter, while other sections have been opened up to allow for vegetation and natural ventilation. Solar panels have also been installed on covered portions of the structure.
Deputy Mayor Charles Lin (林欽榮) inspected the site during Typhoon Bavi to check indoor and outdoor construction areas and rooftop solar equipment.

The city says the project preserves elements of the former railway workshop while converting the long-closed industrial space into a free public recreation area.
The opening is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8.
