KAOHSIUNG — A Kaohsiung man in his 50s reportedly won a NT$12 million scratch-off jackpot after a decorative God of Wealth charm suddenly fell from the wall of a lottery shop in Lingya District (苓雅區), in what staff later described as an unusual but memorable moment.
According to China Times reporting, the incident occurred on Lunar New Year’s Eve at the Jincai-chen Lottery Shop (金財臣彩券行). A shop representative said the set of decorative cards dropped with a loud snap just as the customer was selecting tickets. Interpreting the moment as a lucky sign, he first scratched a NT$1,000 win, then used those winnings to purchase a “NT$12 Million Great Fortune” ticket, which revealed the top prize.
The same shop also reported other Lunar New Year winners, including a woman who claimed a NT$1 million second prize after dreaming of a household water leak, interpreted by relatives as a symbol of incoming wealth. While such stories are often framed through folk belief and festive superstition, Taiwan Lottery data consistently shows a spike in scratch-off purchases during the Lunar New Year period, when promotional top prizes are heavily marketed.
