KAOHSIUNG — Cheers erupted in classrooms across Kaohsiung’s Cianjhen District (前鎮區) as students received a milestone many had been eagerly awaiting: their very first national ID cards.
Through a mobile household registration service operated by the Cianjhen Household Registration Office (前鎮戶政事務所), completed national ID cards were delivered directly to junior high school campuses, allowing students to receive the documents without missing class or requiring parents to take time off work.
The initiative, officially titled the “On-Campus First-Time National ID Application Program,” was recently rolled out at seven schools within the district, including Rueisiang, Rueifong, Guanghua, Shihjia, Cianjhen, Singren, and Chenggong Special Education Junior High School. By processing applications and distributing ID cards on-site, the program eliminated the need for families to visit household registration offices in person.

Inside classrooms, students examined their newly issued cards with visible excitement. Registration officers also used the opportunity to explain the legal importance of the national ID, while providing guidance on fraud prevention and proper household registration practices. Students were specifically warned not to lend their ID cards to others or share photos of either side of the card, as such actions could expose them to identity theft and fraud.
Chen Bai-shan (陳百山), director of the Cianjhen Household Registration Office, said the “apply at school, receive at school” approach ensures that every eligible student receives this essential document efficiently and securely. He added that the program has consistently received positive feedback from parents in past years, particularly for reducing administrative burden on families.
