KAOHSIUNG — Kaohsiung police destroyed 49 boxes of confiscated narcotics and related evidence weighing approximately 960 kilograms during a controlled incineration operation in July.
The material came from 2,653 drug cases concluded over the previous six months. Police estimated the seized narcotics were worth nearly NT$10 million.
Officers transported the evidence to the Dingjin Incinerator (鼎金焚化爐), where it was destroyed under the supervision of police ethics and inspection personnel. Armed officers guarded the shipment, and the operation was recorded from transportation through incineration.
The evidence included 1,721 packets made to resemble commercially sold coffee products but containing illicit drugs. Authorities also destroyed 1,307 bags or containers of ketamine, 130 controlled sedative tablets, 592 ketamine-laced cigarettes and 1,391 pieces of drug paraphernalia.
The total weight covered the confiscated drugs as well as their containers and associated evidence.
Police said synthetic and mixed narcotics are increasingly being concealed in packaging resembling coffee, food, beverages and e-cigarette liquids. The familiar packaging can make the contents difficult to identify, particularly for younger users.
During the first half of 2026, Kaohsiung police reported solving 2,763 criminal drug cases involving 2,705 suspects. That was an increase of 327 cases and 415 suspects compared with the same period last year.
Authorities said enforcement would continue through nighttime patrols, inspections of entertainment venues, monitoring of online activity and joint operations around schools.
