KAOHSIUNG — Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) says that the city will complete its goal of establishing 14 sports centers by the end of 2026.

According to a report by the Sports Development Bureau (高雄市政府運動發展局), nine sports centers are currently operational. Five additional facilities are scheduled to open by the end of the year.
Data shows that annual attendance at city sports centers rose from 1.31 million in 2024 to 2.15 million in 2025. For remote districts lacking fixed facilities, the city has deployed “mobile gyms” to serve senior citizens. A second mobile unit will be added this year. These mobile gyms are aiming to double the 4,500 service sessions they recorded in 2025.
Technical Spotlight: Nanzihkeng (楠仔坑) Sports Center
The NT$610 million Nanzihkeng facility is the flagship project for North Kaohsiung. Located near the Nanzih Interchange, the 8,932-square-meter building is positioned to support the influx of workers from the TSMC Kaohsiung Plant and the surrounding semiconductor S-corridor.
The design features a large-span structure with floor-to-ceiling windows on the north and south sides to maximize natural light and greenery. It has officially completed its recruitment of commercial operators and is currently undergoing interior fit-outs.

Expanded “Mobile Gym” Services

For the 24 administrative districts that still lack a dedicated sports center, the city has deployed its second “Mobile Gym” truck this month. These vehicles target 30+ remote communities, focusing on “sarcopenia prevention” (muscle loss) for the elderly.
- 2024: 3,500 service sessions.
- 2025: 4,500 service sessions.
- 2026 Goal: 9,000+ sessions (with the addition of the second vehicle).
