Centered on the theme of “love,” the concert will weave together piano, violin, and wind instruments to depict encounters and emotions.

KAOHSIUNG — The Kaohsiung Wind Orchestra (高雄市管樂團) will present its annual highlight program Strings of Love (《琴緣.情緣》) on Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, Weiwuying (衛武營國家藝術文化中心).

The concert, centered on the theme of “love,” will weave together piano, violin, and wind instruments to depict encounters and emotions. Pianist Liao Pei-chun (廖培鈞) and violinist Hsueh Chih-chang (薛志璋) will perform as soloists, under the baton of Music Director Wang Zhan (王戰).

    Program highlights

The orchestra will trace four musical chapters: Qixi (《七夕》), inspired by the Chinese folktale of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, transforms longing across the Milky Way into shimmering notes. The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto (《梁祝小提琴協奏曲》) portrays love and parting through lyrical violin lines. Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major collides classical form with jazz-inspired playfulness. Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story Symphonic Dances closes the program with youthful rhythm and urban conflict.

    Orchestra’s mission

Founded in 2012, the Kaohsiung Wind Orchestra (高雄市管樂團) has become one of Taiwan’s leading professional ensembles, frequently supported by the National Culture and Arts Foundation (國藝會). Under Wang (王)’s leadership, the orchestra emphasizes both world-class performances and music education, aiming to make wind music a greater part of everyday life.

    Ticketing and discounts

Tickets range from NT$600 to NT$2,500, with sponsorship tickets at the top tier supporting music education programs. Discounts include 25% off for LINE official account members, and 50% off for seniors and people with disabilities.
