KAOHSIUNG — Taiwanese musical trio Elephant Gym and Taiwanese-American entrepreneur Jared Lin have opened Micro Movement, a professional recording studio and education center located at 43 Nanhua 1st Road (南華一路) in Sinsing District (新興區).

The facility occupies a converted urban house near Formosa Boulevard (美麗島) and the Nanhua Night Market. The ground floor operates as a cafe, while the second and third floors feature sound-insulated recording spaces, a mixing and control room, and a lounge area. Available studio equipment includes multiple Fender guitars, a Fender Jazz Bass, a drum kit, and a keyboard.
Lin stated the studio was constructed to provide southern Taiwanese artists with high-grade resources, eliminating the need for local musicians to spend their budgets on transportation and lodging to use recording facilities in Taipei.
Elephant Gym guitarist Tell, who operates the band alongside bassist KT and drummer Chia-chin, reported the project was financed by angel investors. This funding included capital from a former high school classmate who generated profits in the stock market in 2018 and sought to invest in Kaohsiung. Tell stated the venue is specifically designed for inexperienced audio engineers to practice production and mixing without the financial liability of damaging privately owned studio gear.
Lin, who also operates Fortune Ferret Productions, stated he intends to utilize the studio to develop local instrumental artists and Japanese-style “underground idol” groups for export to the United States market. Music video director Mr Lee, who previously filmed commercials for the band, stated the facility will help promote Taiwan’s independent music industry internationally.
