KAOHSIUNG — Taiwanese pop and electronic dance music star Jeannie Hsieh (謝金燕) will return to the Megaport Festival (大港開唱) stage this month, marking her first appearance at the Kaohsiung music event in two decades. Hsieh, often referred to as Taiwan’s “EDM queen,” will perform at the annual festival scheduled for March 21 and 22 at the Pier-2 Art Center (駁二藝術特區). Japanese singer-songwriter milet was also confirmed as part of the newly revealed lineup.
Hsieh previously performed at the inaugural Megaport Festival in 2006, when the event was first staged near Kaohsiung Harbor. At the time, the festival was largely rock-oriented, and her appearance introduced a distinct electronic dance element to the lineup.
Wiki: The music video for Hsieh’s 2013 single Sister (姐姐) has been viewed over 33 million times on YouTube (25 million in 2013).

Beyond her own music career, Hsieh is the daughter of the late Taiwanese variety show legend Chu Ke-liang (豬哥亮), one of Taiwan’s most recognizable television hosts and comedians of the 1980s and 1990s. Born in Zuoying, Kaohsiung, in 1946, Chu had a flamboyant stage persona and grassroots appeal that made him a cultural fixture across southern Taiwan in particular. Chu passed away in 2017 at the age of 70.

Megaport has grown from an indie-focused gathering into one of southern Taiwan’s most prominent live music events, and organizers say Hsieh’s return, 20 years after the festival’s launch, shows both the event’s longevity and its expanding draw.
