KAOHSIUNG/PINGTUNG — As the 2026 Pingtung Bluefin Tuna Cultural and Conservation Season begins, the Donggang-based seafood brand “魚饌食” (Yú Zhuàn Shí) has established a retail location at the E Sky Mall (義享時尚廣場) in Kaohsiung. The expansion includes the launch of new processed tuna products aimed at both domestic consumers and international travelers.

Over the past 30 years, 魚饌食, which operates its own deep-sea fishing fleet, has transitioned from raw material supply to high-value food processing. The brand’s signature “Premium Tuna Floss” (極品鮪魚鬆) recently received a three-star rating at the A.A. Taste Awards and recognition from the International Taste Institute (iTQI) in Belgium. According to the company, the product is made using sashimi-grade meat without the addition of soy flour or artificial flavorings.

    Export-Ready Souvenirs

Retail staff at the Kaohsiung branch reported significant interest from foreign visitors. Following on-site tastings, several tourists from Hong Kong reportedly purchased full cartons of the brand’s “Premium Tuna Floss” and “Hua Diao Confit Tuna” (花雕油封鮪魚) to transport as souvenirs.

The “Confit Tuna” series utilizes extra virgin olive oil and low-temperature cooking techniques to preserve the texture of tuna belly meat. Shelf-stable, vacuum-sealed options bypass the logistical difficulties of transporting fresh sashimi, says the firm, allowing the local Pingtung specialty to reach international markets more effectively.

The Pingtung Bluefin Tuna Season is a major economic driver for Southern Taiwan. Industry analysts note that the shift toward processed goods provides a stabilized revenue stream for fishing fleets that were previously reliant solely on the volatile fresh-catch auction market in Donggang.
