PINGTUNG — The Pingtung County Government (屏東縣政府) broke ground in mid-March on a connected green corridor project at Yongsin Park (永新公園).

Officials say integrating the park green space with the Chonglan Canal (崇蘭圳) will create an ecological waterfront that doubles as a flood prevention feature. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2027.

Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi (周春米) said the upgrade will retain existing trees while reshaping the park’s landscape to improve resilience and usability. The project includes NT$60 million in central government funding through an urban environment program, with more than NT$12 million in matching funds from the county government.

Located near Pingtung Railway Station (屏東車站) and cultural and commercial areas such as Shengli Star Village (勝利星村) and Jhongshan Road commercial district (中山商圈), the park should help connect existing urban zones.

Officials said the redesign will introduce varied terrain, expanded waterways, and shaded pedestrian paths to improve climate regulation, reduce urban heat, and create accessible public space.
