Coworking space Second Space held a soft opening for its second branch on Qixian 1st Road (Cisian 1st Rd./高雄市新興區七賢一路294號) on Friday. The new location is significantly larger than the original Second Space and includes professional studio facilities, meeting rooms, workstations, lounge areas, and other amenities.

Arturs Vancans, the founder of Second Space, is a Latvian national and has lived in Taiwan for almost a decade. Trained as a computer engineer, Vancans worked in banking in the UK and elsewhere in Europe before moving to Taiwan.

After settling in southern Taiwan, he found that Kaohsiung lacked the kind of facilities available to digital nomads and other non-office-based workers in cities such as London.

His effort to fill that gap led to the first Second Space, located across from Central Park (高雄中央公園) on Zhongshan Road (中山路).

At Friday’s soft opening, about 50 people from more than a dozen nationalities toured the expanded facility, which will soon also offer unlimited coffee made by a human barista for about NT$1,500 per month.

Membership at Second Space includes 24-hour access to the facilities. As the number of expats and other flexible workers in Kaohsiung continues to grow, the second branch is likely to become another hub of activity and innovation in southern Taiwan’s largest city.
