KAOHSIUNG — Siaogang Sports Center is scheduled to open by the end of October after two years of construction, according to the City Government.
The three-story center is being built inside Siaogang Forest Park (小港森林公園). It will have a total floor area of 8,883 square meters, or nearly 2,700 ping, and has cost approximately NT$562 million to construct.
The first floor will contain a 25-meter heated indoor swimming pool, a spa pool and commercial space. A gym, aerobics studio and yoga room will occupy the second floor, while the third floor will contain a multipurpose court.
Other facilities will include a children’s playroom and an outdoor balance-bike area.
Construction began in 2024 and is now in its final stage. The reinforced-concrete and steel building has an exterior intended to resemble an aircraft taking off, a reference to Siaogang District’s aviation history.
The gym will have 95 pieces of exercise equipment, including 18 treadmills. The city said access to the fitness facilities will cost NT$50.
Free public-use hours will be offered from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. daily for eligible Kaohsiung residents, including people aged 65 or older, members of low-income households and people with disabilities.
Kaohsiung has completed 12 public sports centers. Centers in Luzhu and Siaogang are expected to begin operating soon, while the Cishan Sports Center is scheduled for completion in 2027.
