Tainan-Penghu ferry route planned from Jiangjun Harbor

New floating docks add 60 berths as city prepares summer service to Magong’s Suogang

TAINAN — A new ferry route linking Tainan’s Jiangjun Fishing Harbor (將軍漁港) with Suogang (鎖港) in Magong, Penghu, is expected to begin service this summer after receiving approval from the Maritime and Port Bureau (航港局), Tainan officials said.

The announcement came as the city on June 18 marked the completion of three new floating docks at Jiangjun Fishing Harbor.

The new Tainan-Penghu route would allow travelers in the Tainan area to depart directly from Jiangjun instead of traveling to Kaohsiung or Chiayi to take a boat to Penghu, officials said.

The route is expected to be served by the Jinpeng Star (金澎之星), which would sail directly to Suogang rather than the more common Magong Port route. City officials said Suogang could serve as a gateway to southern Penghu attractions, including squid-fishing tours, snorkeling, Shanshui Beach (山水沙灘), and Fenggui (風櫃).

Construction began in July 2025 and was completed at the end of May, the city said. The three new floating docks provide 60 berths, with improved wave resistance, slip-resistant surfaces, and upgraded mooring space.

Agriculture Bureau Director Lee Fang-lin (李芳林) said the project was not only a repair effort, but part of a broader plan to make the harbor more resilient to extreme weather and better equipped for local industry and tourism.
