TAINAN — Tainan’s Golden Coast (黃金海岸), known for its five-kilometer stretch of sunset-lit shoreline near Kaohsiung’s Jiading District, is being repositioned as an all-ages tourism hub through major infrastructure upgrades and a new long-distance cycling network.
The Tainan City Government has secured funding for the Golden Coast Marine Park Project, which will redesign the area’s main entrance, build a new public plaza at the Xishu (喜樹) access point, and create an “infinity-style” beachfront park with walking paths and rest areas designed for visitors of all ages.
According to the Tourism Bureau, aging shower facilities are being renovated, scenic restrooms added, and nighttime lighting improved. Smart beach safety monitoring technology will also be introduced to enhance visitor security. The upgrades will connect Xishu, Xiaomeijun Beach, and the Erren River into a continuous coastal recreation corridor.
A major highlight is the “Twin Museums Bicycle Route,” a 40-kilometer path linking the National Museum of Taiwan History to the Chimei Museum. The route passes historic sites, including Anping Fort, Eternal Golden Castle, Lin Mo-niang Park, and Tainan Canal, before continuing along the coast and Erren River levee.
Visitors can rent YouBikes at the Golden Coast Visitor Center and cycle south to Xingda Fishing Port (興達港) in Kaohsiung, enjoying coastal views and local seafood along the way.
Officials say recent commercial developments, including Eslite Mall and the Carbon Grilled Restaurant complex, as well as urban redevelopment in Wanli and flood-control infrastructure, are helping drive regional growth.
