KAOHSIUNG — One of southern Taiwan’s largest music events returns this weekend with added significance, as the Megaport Festival (大港開唱) celebrates its 20th anniversary at the Pier-2 Art Center (駁二藝術特區) on March 21 and 22.

The milestone edition is expected to draw large crowds to the Penglai Port area (蓬萊港區), continuing a broader trend in which major concerts and festivals are driving tourism, hotel demand, and weekend traffic across Kaohsiung. While specific attendance figures have not been officially confirmed, past editions have drawn tens of thousands, and authorities are preparing for another high-impact weekend.

The 20th anniversary edition also underscores the festival’s evolution from a niche indie gathering into a flagship cultural event. Megaport is now one of the main annual events that boosts Kaohsiung’s “concert economy.” The strategy aims to convert large-scale entertainment into broader economic activity, benefiting hotels, restaurants, and local businesses.
