KAOHSIUNG — Two of Kaohsiung’s most closely watched public sports center projects, in Sanmin District (三民區) and Siaogang District (小港區), are entering their final preparation phase, with openings expected later this year.

This week, Deputy Mayor Lin Chin-jung (林欽榮) inspected both sites, focusing on construction progress and operational readiness as the facilities move toward trial operations.

The Sanmin Sports Center, located near Yangming Junior High School (陽明國中), is scheduled to begin trial operations in July. Positioned in one of the city’s most densely populated districts, the facility is expected to ease pressure on existing public fitness spaces by offering a full range of amenities, including a swimming pool, gym, and multi-purpose courts.

In Siaogang, a larger and more design-focused facility is taking shape within Siaogang Forest Park (小港森林公園). The project, which cost more than NT$600 million to develop, is expected to open for trial operations in October. The center includes a 25-meter heated swimming pool, spa facilities, indoor courts, and fitness areas. The design has an emphasis on integrating the structure into the surrounding green space.

Both facilities are expected to operate under a public-private partnership model, with private operators managing day-to-day services while maintaining pricing designed to remain accessible to the general public.
