KAOHSIUNG — A recent report by Kingtop.com explains that Kaohsiung City’s Tourism Bureau (高雄市政府觀光局) has added 22 newly legalized campsites in recent years, mostly by fixing and expanding existing sites.

The expansion followed regulatory changes introduced by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (交通部) in 2022, which established clearer guidelines for campsite management. The city now has a single-service window and advisory system to help campground operators navigate legalization procedures and upgrade facilities.

To capitalize on the spring season, the city has launched a campaign dubbed the “Spring Camping Trilogy,” highlighting routes through the eastern mountain districts. The itinerary includes flower viewing in Liugui District (六龜區), visits to Baolai (寶來) and Bulao (不老) hot spring areas, and firefly watching in Namasia District (那瑪夏區), which hosts one of Taiwan’s earliest firefly seasons.

Tourism officials also point to scenic drives along Provincial Highways 27 and 27A (台27線、台27甲線), where seasonal blooms create so-called “pink tunnel” landscapes. The routes connect to additional attractions, including cherry blossoms in Taoyuan District’s Baoshan area (桃源區寶山) and ecological sites in Maolin District (茂林區), known for its purple crow butterfly migration.

Officials say the initiative is designed to position Kaohsiung’s mountainous regions as a key domestic tourism draw, particularly as interest in camping and outdoor recreation grows.
