PINGTUNG — Manjhou Township (滿州鄉) has received three donated passenger vehicles to help meet rising demand for medical transportation and local shuttle service in one of Pingtung County’s more remote areas.

Wiki: Manjhou Township (滿州鄉; Mǎnzhōu Xiāng, Paiwan: Vangecul) has an area of 142.2 square kilometers and a population of 7,196. The indigenous Paiwan people make up 25% of the population.

Pingtung County officials said the vehicles were donated by six worshippers in collaboration with the Taipei Songshan Ciyou Temple Foundation (財團法人台北市松山慈祐宮). The vehicles entered service on April 10. The county said the addition will strengthen both hospital transport and the township’s Happiness Bus service.

According to the county government, Manjhou has participated in the Happiness Bus program since 2020. The township office currently operates one minibus and three small vehicles, while the Wheat Seed Foundation (一粒麥子基金會) provides two more small vehicles on the service network. Together, they provide transportation within the township and to the Hengchun area for hospital visits, school, government errands, and daily shopping. County figures show the service had handled more than 103,000 passenger trips as of the end of January this year.

The county said one of the newly donated vehicles will be assigned to local Happiness Bus routes based on rider demand, while the other two will be used for longer-distance medical transport. Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi (周春米) said the county will continue reviewing transport capacity in the area and will support additional vehicles or operating funds if demand continues to grow.
