KAOHSIUNG — Fares on 85 intercity bus routes will be reduced by 40 percent from Sept. 24 through Sept. 28 as transportation authorities prepare for increased travel during the Mid-Autumn Festival and Teachers’ Day long weekend.
The Highway Bureau said passengers on the designated routes will pay 60 percent of the regular fare during the five-day promotion, which begins one day before the four-day holiday.
Passengers using the same electronic fare card can also receive a free basic-distance fare or one fare segment when transferring to an eligible local bus within 10 hours of traveling on Taiwan Railway, Taiwan High Speed Rail or an intercity bus.
Services to popular destinations in Pingtung County will be increased during the holiday period. Route 9189, the Kenting Express, is expected to operate up to 60 services per day, while Route 9127D, which connects Zuoying HSR Station with Dapeng Bay and the Liouciou ferry terminal, will operate up to 44.
Passengers can check schedules and real-time arrival information through the iBus app.
Ahead of the holiday, the Kaohsiung Motor Vehicles Office (高雄區監理所) inspected a Kaohsiung Bus maintenance facility and the Pingtung Bus Terminal. Inspectors examined vehicle equipment, emergency exits, driver scheduling, and whether operators were carrying out required alcohol testing.
Travelers registered for TPASS 2.0+ can receive additional monthly rebates based on the number of eligible trips they take. Those who also register with the Green Transport Service Platform can receive a further 3 percent rebate, bringing the combined fare and rebate package as low as approximately 40 percent of the regular price in qualifying cases.
The Green Transport Service Platform, launched July 1, also allows passengers to review their public transportation rewards and estimated carbon reductions. Registration is available through the TPASS website.
