Taiwan is experiencing a severe and sustained decline in its birth rate, with predictions indicating it is on course to have the world’s lowest total fertility rate (TFR) by 2035.

Statistics show older drivers are involved in significant numbers of accidents, especially with pedestrians/scooters. For example, drivers 70+ had higher incidents of “pedestrian or passenger error” attributed to them per 100,000 population (47 for 70+ vs. 11 for 18-29) in one breakdown.

A small gallery next to the main shelter building preserves the wartime history, displaying material about the old camp and its prisoners. Critics argue that the redevelopment erased too much of the physical site. Supporters say the county struck a balance between present-day needs and acknowledgment of the past.

The design-build project, now underway, is scheduled for completion in December 2026. It covers a full upgrade of the Cijin Beach core area and extensive improvements along the surrounding coastline, marking a major milestone in Kaohsiung’s effort to elevate its coastal tourism infrastructure.

Public Works Bureau Director Yang Chin-fu (楊欽富) said the splash zone is just one piece of a broader plan to make the park a more attractive neighborhood space.

Taro News reported that “after the Ministry of Transportation reviewed and approved the revised plan, the Kaohsiung City Government now says the full line will open in 2034. The partial opening of sections Y1 to Y5 and Y5 to Y18 (from the depot area to the Weiwuying district) could occur in 2032.”
