The 23rd Compass Food & Music Festival will bring two days of live bands, DJs, food and drinks to Taichung’s Civic Square this weekend. Admission to the main festival is free.

The Taiwan Railway Corporation (台灣鐵路公司) plans to demolish and rebuild the 60-year-old Lujhu Station (路竹車站) after the facility failed to meet structural seismic standards. According to information published by local community outlet Kaohsiungdian (高雄點), the railway authority expects to open the public tender process for the reconstruction project in October. Preliminary project timelines indicate the new transit station is scheduled to become fully operational by mid-2029.

Once associated paths are completed, the city intends the bridge to form part of a largely traffic-separated walking route connecting Shuanghu Forest Park (雙湖森林公園), Guoling Natural Park and Chengcing Lake.

A section of Chaishan Road in Gushan District reopened to cars Sept. 12 after remaining closed for more than two weeks because of slope movement caused by heavy rain.

The change means people without memberships can no longer purchase food-court items independently at affected warehouses. Until now, some Costco food courts, particularly those accessible without entering the main shopping area, have served both members and non-members.

The Tourism Bureau recommended using public transportation because of expected crowds. The festival can be reached from exits 1 and 4 of Yanchengpu Station or on foot from the C12 Dayi Pier-2 (駁二大義) and C13 Penglai Pier-2 (駁二蓬萊) light rail stations.

Tickets cost NT$500 per person and will be available through the ibon ticketing system. The festival opens at Tianliao Moon World (田寮月世界), where rides will be offered from Sept. 25 to 28 and again Oct. 3 and 4. The event then moves to Love River (愛河) for the Double Ten holiday weekend from Oct. 9 to 11.

The Fisheries Agency has defended Cianjhen Fishing Port’s NT$405 million crew hostel, denying an ongoing water shortage and outlining repairs. Its response did not provide occupancy figures or directly answer concerns about affordability and peak-time shower capacity.

Pingtung County has opened anonymous e-cigarette collection points as Taiwan considers fines of NT$30,000 to NT$100,000 for possession. The amendment has not yet passed, and no enforcement date has been announced.
