CHIAYI — Chiayi County has opened registration for its second AI Creative Unmanned Vehicle Summer Camp (AI創意無人載具夏令營), a free program combining drone operation, ground robots, and AI-based project design for high school students.
The Chiayi County Government (嘉義縣政府) said registration opened July 3 after County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang (翁章梁) announced the program at the Asia Drone AI Innovation Application Expo.

The camp is organized by the Chiayi County Cultural and Tourism Bureau (嘉義縣文化觀光局) and the county’s Economic Development Department (經濟發展處). Students who are registered residents of Chiayi or who attend school in Chiayi will be given priority.
The program will be held in two three-day sessions, with each session accepting 50 students and five waitlisted applicants. The first session will run from Aug. 10 to 12, and the second from Aug. 13 to 15, both from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Classes will be held at the Chiayi Culture and Technology Innovation Hub (嘉義文化科技創新基地) at Suantou Sugar Factory’s East Warehouse No. 5 in Lioujiao Township (六腳鄉).

The course includes drone flight principles, remote-control flight, automated programming, and mission challenges. Students will also learn robot programming and control, take part in team challenges, and develop AI-assisted project proposals.
The AI project component, called “NEXT ME,” will guide students to identify everyday problems and use design thinking, AI collaboration, image-generation tools, and minimum viable product concepts to develop proposals and presentations.
Students will also visit the innovation hub’s immersive exhibition space to experience XR, VR, MR, and other cultural-technology applications, the county said.
Both camp groups will gather Aug. 16 at the Asia Drone AI Innovation Application R&D Center (亞洲無人機AI創新應用研發中心) in Puzi City (朴子市) for a final competition and presentation day.
The final scores will be split evenly between an AI innovation and entrepreneurship presentation and an air-ground challenge. The top three teams will receive certificates and cash prizes of NT$10,000, NT$5,000, and NT$3,000, respectively.
Students who attend the full camp will receive completion certificates.
The county said the program is meant to give students practical experience with drones, robots, and AI tools while encouraging teamwork and problem-solving.
Registration is open online and will close when all places are filled.
