PINGTUNG — Tourism officials from Taiwan and South Korea are looking to bring more Korean visitors to southern Taiwan, with Pingtung County (屏東縣) hoping to turn stronger air links and repeat travel demand into more local tourism.

The issue was discussed on Thursday at the 39th Taiwan-Korea Tourism Exchange Conference, Taiwan News reported, citing CNA.

Tourism Administration (觀光署) Deputy Director-General Huang Shih-fang (黃勢芳) said travel between Taiwan and South Korea continued to grow last year, with two-way visits reaching 2.85 million in 2025. More than 1.01 million South Korean travelers visited Taiwan during the year, he said.

Huang said Taiwan will continue promoting repeat visits, incentive travel, and stopover tourism, while also working to increase visitor spending and length of stay.

Korea Association of Travel Agents Chair Lee Jin-seok said Korean travel companies should make greater use of the rising number of flights between the two countries, including expanded services through airports in central and southern Taiwan.

He said those routes could help encourage Korean visitors to look beyond northern Taiwan and add more southern destinations to their itineraries.

Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi (周春米) said South Korea has long been an important overseas market for the county. She said Pingtung will continue working with Korean tourism operators to attract more visitors.

The Pingtung Department of Transportation and Tourism (屏東縣政府交通旅遊處), citing Tourism Administration figures, said South Korean visitors made up nearly 12% of all arrivals to Taiwan last year.

About 116,000 South Korean travelers visited Pingtung, the department said.
