The Tainan Tourism Bureau (台南市政府觀光旅遊局) said it has trained seven certified sign-language guides, including two with Class B sign-language interpreter certification. The guides are expected to join the city’s walking-tour program, beginning with the Confucius Temple route, which links several major cultural sites in central Tainan.
The Pingtung Department of Transportation and Tourism (屏東縣政府交通旅遊處), citing Tourism Administration figures, said South Korean visitors made up nearly 12% of all arrivals to Taiwan last year. About 116,000 South Korean travelers visited Pingtung, the department said.
Kaohsiung has launched a new international tourism campaign, with promotional ads rolling out in Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, and Malaysia as the city tries to raise its profile in key overseas travel markets.
Chen says the city should study the possibility of reconnecting the old rail bridges on both the north and south sides of the area. Chen said the Public Works Bureau’s Parks Office had been asked to evaluate the engineering requirements and cost of such a project.
Chen said Cishan’s Gushan Park (鼓山公園) reflects both the district’s strengths and its current limitations. While the area has a rich historical background, he said, its overall tourism theme remains somewhat scattered.
Kaohsiung City Councilor Chang Po-yang (張博洋) pointed out that cruise passengers often have only a few hours in the city before returning to their ships. Chang said that means shops need to be easy to identify, easy to reach, and ready to serve foreign visitors.
Arrivals from Korea could reach 115,000 this year, surpassing the pre-pandemic peak of 104,000 and generating more than NT$2 billion for local shopping districts.
Under the program, groups of at least 15 people can apply for the subsidy if they visit designated attractions in Cieding (茄萣), Yongan (永安), Mituo (彌陀), Ziguan (梓官), and Linyuan (林園), and include a local meal as part of the itinerary.
