Kaohsiung’s 70-hectare “Green Heart” to host massive picnic party for two weekends starting April 25
The city’s Tourism Bureau announced today that the Kaohsiung Green Park (果嶺自然公園) — a massive 70-hectare transformation of a former golf course — will host a sprawling “Spring Picnic Fun” festival over two consecutive weekends starting April 25.
Under the program, groups of at least 15 people can apply for the subsidy if they visit designated attractions in Cieding (茄萣), Yongan (永安), Mituo (彌陀), Ziguan (梓官), and Linyuan (林園), and include a local meal as part of the itinerary.
In addition to standard indoor fitness and recreation facilities, the project has drawn attention for including what officials say will be the city’s only rooftop croquet court.

In previous years, the splash area typically opened closer to summer vacation, but many residents are pushing for an earlier start as Kaohsiung heats up long before “summer.” As temperatures in Kaohsiung hit 31 degrees Celsius on Saturday, the city appears inclined to open the facility as soon as final safety approvals are complete.
As the market shifts, the broader question may be what kind of animal- or nature-based tourism will prove more sustainable. In Kaohsiung, City Councilor Kuo Chien-meng (郭建盟) recently highlighted the “Fantasy Flight Eco Garden” (螢光奇緣秘境) near Chengcing Lake (澄清湖), describing it as a place where visitors can see fireflies in the city during the spring and summer season. The contrast points to a different tourism model, one centered less on close-contact animal encounters and more on habitat-based nature experiences.
The seminar will cover how to evaluate different school options, what public education services are available, including Mandarin learning support, and the timelines and procedures involved in school registration.
The “Dinosaur Fun Park” (恐龍酷樂園), which ran through April 6, featured live dinosaur performances, interactive exhibits, and themed activity zones. The city says attendance peaked on the opening day with more than 250,000 visitors, while improved weather on the third day helped push daily turnout to over 280,000.
