KAOHSIUNG — The reconstruction of Jiuru Bridge is now expected to be completed by June, several months ahead of the original October target, as Kaohsiung City moves to accelerate the project timeline. Authorities will begin phased road closures on March 2 to allow construction to proceed more quickly.

According to the Kaohsiung Public Works Bureau’s Construction Office, Jiuru 4th Road between Huaan Street and Cuihua Road, along with Hexi 1st Road between Housheng Road and Maka Road, will be closed from March 2 through June 30. Drivers are advised to prepare alternative routes in advance to minimize disruption.

Officials said the new bridge will be built at ground level while still maintaining the required clearance above the Love River. To meet height regulations, Tongmeng 3rd Road and Hexi 1st Road are being raised by about 2.1 meters. Elevation work on Tongmeng 3rd Road was completed before the Lunar New Year holiday, allowing that section to reopen, while similar work on Hexi 1st Road will now proceed during the closure period.

Jiuru 4th Road will also be shut during construction, following route adjustments made in response to community feedback. Traffic volunteers will be deployed on site to assist with vehicle flow and safety.

During the works, motorists heading toward the city center can detour via Qinghai Road and Gushan 3rd Road. Bus routes 168 East and 168 West will temporarily bypass three stops and reroute along Meidu Road.

City officials urged the public to follow posted detour signage and on-site traffic directions, emphasizing that the measures are intended to maintain safety and keep traffic moving smoothly around the construction zone.
